Linda Cunningham

Linda Cunningham's recent work has been engaged with ruins and remnants of architectural structures, textured by historic references. In installations and drawing/collages visually compelling, found materials are incorporated both as actual components and collaged as photo-based laser prints. Text is used as a structural and iconographic element. 21st C signage, historic, documentary and literary references mesh with drawn and collaged images using Xerox transfer, collage and frottage techniques. Her metaphoric twisted steel I Beams, crumbling layers of dry wall, and gracefully entwined reinforcement rod form a distinctive beautiful yet resonant visual vocabulary.

Linda Cunningham is a New York city based artist and has worked and exhibited extensively both in New York and in Deutschland. Her monumental public sculptural installations which often function as alternative memorials are sited in Cologne, Bonn, Kassel, & Cornberg, Germany, Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton, N.J., UN Plaza, New York 1997-1998, Wright State University, Dayton Ohio. She is the recipient of grants from the Bronx Council on the Arts, Pa Council on the Arts, Fulbright Senior Research fellowship, Berlin, Arts International Kade Collaborative Works, and the John Anson Kittredge Foundation.
